12 Days of Christmas – Five Golden Rings! – Wedding Inspiration Christmas Countdown

12 days of Christmas 5

Gold and Green are two of the easiest pairings in history, especially at this time of year. Throw in a couple of gold rings and what do you get? A wedding! Today I focused on finding subtle greens and golds that work well together as a team and separately, but must work in a wedding environment. I love this rich green, which I believe will be big in 2013, as mint had it’s moment in 2012. An easy way to incorporate gold and green in to your every day life is to pick up a fresh wreath (or make one, which is even better!) and grab some gold glitter, and spray it to give it a christmas-y glow!

12 Days of Christmas – Four Colly Birds – Wedding Inspiration Countdown

12 days of Christmas 4

Colly Birds are probably the hardest thing to find in a wedding, as most people do not even know what a Colly Bird is! I won’t lie, I too had to do my research and find out exactly what this fine little birds are. They are actually a lovely black bird, and as soon as I saw them the doo doo doo’s of The Beatle’s “Blackbird” started to play in my head. I find that birds are a significant in any wedding, as they are a representative of freedom.

Above is a take on colly birds in a very glam purple and black wedding: really stunning at this time of year!

12 Days of Christmas – Two Turtle Doves – Daily Wedding Inspiration Countdown

12 days of christmas 2

Day two of my daily countdown to christmas brings us some sweet love and imagery focusing on Two Turtle Doves! Doves have always been a significant part of weddings throughout history, but only in the last few years have they been used less and less. Nevertheless, the use of birds and the significance of being free and so wonderfully in love ring true, especially at this blessed time of year amoungst friends and family!

Todays inspiration quickly evolved into being very very vintage, with lots of neutrals, pastels and birdies!

Vendor Review – Sarah England Photography!

It has been an amazing few weeks for me with Ainsley’s Affairs! Now that we are winding down to week number 2 with my new business name, I have been so wanting to get back in to blogging.
Lately I have been blessed with many vendors helping me recreate my brand, and starting a fresh new world for me. There has been Madison Hope of Hope Studio Co., Mac & Erin of Hello Tomorrow Wedding Films, and many others.

A significant vendor that has been around me lately has been Sarah England, of Sarah England Photography. Her amazing images have inspired both Madison and I to be more creative as a whole, and we have been so incredibly blessed to work with her this past week on two occasions. The first occasion was for an upcoming project that Madison and I will be revealing in February. It is going to be an AMAZING experience for you and us, and we are pumped to share it with you. Fingers crossed you will love it!

The second occasion that I had the opportunity to work with Sarah was for some headshots, in partnership with another amazing vendor (soon to have her own vendor review!)! Sarah worked her magic on Madison & I at Film 2 Frame studios in New West’s Antique Alley. I have yet to see the results, but needless to say I am excited. I am super pleased to share with you some of her work. She is a travelling gypsy girl who seems to be here and there, and will be leaving for New Zealand for a year in February, so if you want to collaborate with her, do it now before she flies away!

To review Sarah, seems ridiculous, because her work stands on its own as being mind blowingly creative. I cannot wait until I have another opportunity to work with this amazing girl!

Welcome to Ainsley’s Affairs!

It has been a long time coming, but it is finally here! I am in love with my new name, my new website, my new image, and the prospect of new clients, just like you!

I have so many people to thank for this big change, and the biggest one goes to my friend Madison, Graphic Designer EXTRAORDINAIRE! This amazing woman who also owns and runs Hope Studio Co., really is responsible for giving my online world a new face. I am so incredibly thankful for her long hours of dedication and her wonderful attitude towards my nit picking and fussyness. She really is the best! I dont think one single day has passed where we have not exchanged some kind of communication.

I also have to thank Hello Tomorrow Wedding Films for helping me relaunch with a FANTASTIC video. They were the perfect team of husband and wife, and have given my new name a “real-life” image. They followed me for an entire day, from here to there, and helped me transform the gazebo of The Rose Garden into the perfect ceremony cite for any bride. take a minute or so to enjoy some of their handiwork, as I know they will appreciate it! ^^^ I also have to thank Brick & Mortar living for letting me visit, and it was great to see Julia be involved! It was really a perfect day. ❤

Lastly, I have to thank all of my friends and family for believing in me, and giving me the courage to be true to who I am as a person and as a wedding planner. I believe it is important to give a correct portrayal of my business at all times, and that includes my business name. I was fortunate to have a wonderful mother who gave me a fantastic name, so I feel I am honouring her memory today, and forever more, by using Ainsley in my business. Lastly, I am a one gal team, and I am a representation of my business, so Ainsley’s Affairs really fits with who I am.

I welcome you to a brand new year, a brand new adventure and a brand new life for Idea!, now the fabulously named: Ainsley’s Affairs!

Come join me!

I always knew the day I’d meet my future husband would be a complete surprise.  I’d be walking down some city street and the wind would blow an important paper out of my hands and there he’d be, picking it up with ease and bringing it back to me with a smile on his face.  Or I’d be standing in line ordering a coffee and he’d be right behind me; then he’d offer to pay if only I’d sit down and drink it with him.  I met my future husband in college.  That wasn’t a surprise; somehow I knew I’d meet him there.  Nevertheless, when I finally met him, it came as more of a surprise than I would have thought.

Matt Richardson.  I knew his name. I’d seen him around campus probably every single day.  We went to a small school; Cincinnati Christian University.  With only about 80 students in our graduating class, it wasn’t hard to know everyone by name.  But even with the small size of the school, Matt and I had never said as much as a “hello” to one another, until one night when he sat down at a table with me and a couple mutual friends.   It was odd at first, finally being introduced to this guy that I’d seen a million times.  I felt myself blush; he was really cute and, let’s be honest, pretty popular.  We kept making eye contact.  Then he’d smile and I’d look down at my papers and try to distract myself by talking to my friend.  Within a few minutes, though, I noticed the two mutual friends we were sitting with were texting each other under the table.  They kept giggling and saying things like “I could totally see that!” and “it’d be so cute!”  It wasn’t hard to catch on that they were probably talking about a potential couple. Matt and me.

We finally got them to go public with the news and found out my assumption was spot on.  They thought Matt and I would be a cute couple.  Of course.
I distinctly remember looking up at Matt, knowing we were thinking the same thing.  Hmm.  What would it be like to date you?
I felt like I was on a dating show.
We both laughed that awkward “what do we do in this really weird situation” kind of laugh.  But I think we both knew our friends might actually be right.  Maybe we’d be cute together.

Well, he ended up asking for my number the next night.  We went out on our first date a week later, and we just passed our two year anniversary this last weekend.

Funny how life works like that.  We also got our engagement pictures done a few weeks ago.  That’s kinda where I became inspired to write about how we met, because when I look at the first picture we ever took together, compared to our engagement pictures, I can’t help but laugh at how much we’ve changed together.  I mean, check it out:

I laughed for a good five minutes at the difference..we look like total babies in our first picture.

We had our engagement pictures taken by d.i.a. images and I couldn’t be more excited about them.  They completely capture the joy we’ve found in the last two years of being together, and our excitement about getting married in four months.  Something to alwaysalways splurge on for your wedding is a photographer.  We’re already so thankful we did.  These engagement pictures (and I’m sure our wedding pictures in the future as well) will be all over our home as a keepsake; something you can’t have with the caterer or the wedding rentals.  I’m sure you’re dying to see more pictures of us, so I’ll let you ooh and ahh over a few more.  🙂

Vendor Review – Brick & Mortar Living – New Westminster, B.C.

Hello All!

This week I decided to write a vendor review of a store that has quickly become a favourite for me in so so many ways.

Brick and Mortar Living is a wonderful home decor & gift shop that has the best in the lower mainland for canadian and local vendors and designers. From amazing jewellery, cute pillows and even more fantastic owners, this store continues to amaze me in so many ways. So far I have purchased great finds from Emma, Julia and Mama, many of which have been used at various events I have hosted and produced this past fall. I was fortunate to pick up an amazing egg basket lighting feature (Robyn’s Vintage Nest), along with a fantastic WTF (What the Frame?!) jewellery frame (which worked wonders as a seating chart, and is now being used by me in my home for its proper usage), along with many many more repurposed, refurbished, and unique Gems. I even found a FANTASTIC candle-labra that is going to be featured in an upcoming shoot for my newest project! (teehee, stay tuned for more news of that!)

One thing that sets Brick & Mortar Living apart from so many other small gift stores is their knack and ease at attracting friends and neighbours from afar. I have been trolling around Facebook and seeing who has had a chance to drop by, just from my personal friends, and more than 25 have tickled their fancies within their white washed walls. Some even have travelled from as far away as White Rock and West Van. Clearly, these ladies know how to connect and use social media to their advantage. Not only that, they are the friendliest ladies I have ever had the opportunity to meet in a local store to date!

Check out some of the photos that they have snapped from around the shop, and please visit their facebook page, if you haven’t already done so!

I picked up one of these wonderful necklaces made out of old tea cup spoons! My grandmother has a million and one of these old spoons floating around the house so it always reminds me of her when I wear it! Check out Georgina Baker Jewellery!

Absolutely LOVING these bridal headpieces which are a perfect accessory for the vintage savvy bride! Check out Blue Brocade!

We picked up one of their old world suitcases to be used as a card box at our thanksgiving rustic/vintage wedding. It was a perfect fit!

Why look-y here! There it is on the bottom right! ❤

To cut this long story short, please don’t be shy, and go visit the lovely ladies over at Brick & Mortar Living. I promise that you will not be leaving empty handed, and you will be proud of it.

I don’t think I have left once without picking up something fabulous and heart warming.

Here is to a long life and a bright future for Idea! and Brick & Mortar Living. It is only just the beginning!

xoxo Ainsley

Christmas is coming!

I had to share this lovely choral piece by the amazing Elektra Women’s Choir. I had the honour of singing with this amazing ensemble for 2.5 years, and it was a spectacular experience to learn this song.

With christmas coming I couldn’t help but share this amazing piece celebrating the birth of Jesus.
Take two minutes to let the sounds wash over you and the amazing harmonies fill your ears.
Breath taking.

Sigh.
Have a wonderful and peaceful evening.
